About Amaal

My practice focuses on large-scale, heavily textured abstract paintings that translate raw human emotion, memory, and cultural identity into physical form. Based in Glasgow, I operate an independent studio model built entirely on self-directed execution and intuitive material exploration. I treat paint not merely as a colour medium, but as a physical, sculptural force.

My work serves as a distinct visual bridge for my dual identity as a Scottish Algerian. I am deeply rooted in my Algerian culture—a heritage filled with vibrant movement, luxury, opulent golds, and intense colours. Rather than relying on literal portraits or traditional motifs, I mute and refine this high-octane energy in a contemporary Scottish way. My Scottish upbringing introduces a sense of quiet luxury, structure, and a non-literal, understated aesthetic to the canvas.

I saw a clear direction for original abstract fine art that functions as a high-end, luxury interior design piece—artwork that commands a room as a central, structural feature rather than basic wall decoration. My technical progression from flat acrylics to heavy body impasto oils allows me to build up thick, three-dimensional ridges and complex layered blends. This physical handling of the medium acts as a direct outlet for intense internal experiences. I pour personal transitions, heartbreaks, and the entirety of my current energy straight into the physical paint layers, locking those raw moments into the canvas.

By loading the canvas with heavy texture and letting the paint take its own path through an intuitive process, the medium remains organic and dynamically responsive to ambient light. As daylight changes, it hits the peaks and valleys of the impasto surface, casting natural shadows and shifting the depth of the pigments. The canvas ceases to be a flat image and becomes a living, premium object.

This specific approach has led to major creative collaborations with prominent national sporting and cultural organisations, including projects with Rangers F.C. and Crystal Palace F.C. Whether hanging in a luxury residential interior or showcased pitch-side at an iconic stadium, my work proves that contemporary abstraction can bridge the gap between high-end design and historic cultural environments.
I create original fine art for spaces that demand soul, presence, and structural depth. This journey is about building an uncompromising world that reflects a unique creative path: strong, grounded, emotional, and powerful. If my pieces speak to you, then the connection is already established.
